In a statement released on Sunday, the President disclosed that he has directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to establish a dedicated account for the initiative.
“On this my 74th birthday, I celebrate the valiant men and women of our Armed Forces,” Tinubu said, emphasizing that the fund is aimed at providing support for those injured in the line of duty and dependents of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
He further pledged a personal contribution to kick-start the initiative, stating that all his salaries since assuming office would be paid into the fund as seed capital, regardless of existing welfare and insurance schemes for military personnel.
“As a personal commitment, all my salaries since assuming office will be paid into this account as seed funding,” he added.
The President called on governors, members of the National Assembly, private sector players, and well-meaning Nigerians to support the initiative, noting that details of the account would be made public in due course.
Tinubu stressed the importance of recognizing the sacrifices of military personnel and their families, describing the initiative as a national responsibility rather than charity.
“We must never forget those who stand in harm’s way for our peace, nor the sacrifices borne by their families. This is not charity. It is duty,” he said.
The President also revealed that he chose to mark his 74th birthday quietly, citing the current national mood and ongoing challenges facing the country, while expressing gratitude to Nigerians for their prayers, support, and goodwill messages.
