The Bayero University Kano (BUK) Cultural Carnival brought members of the university community together on Saturday, October 3, 2026, in a colourful celebration of culture, identity and unity.
The event featured two major sessions, beginning with a cultural parade from Ramat Hall to the Adamu Mu’azu Mini Stadium at the BUK New Site. Students from different ethnic groups marched in their traditional attire, showcasing the rich cultural diversity within the university community.
The second session featured cultural displays inside the stadium, with participating groups presenting aspects of their heritage through traditional dances, drumming, poetry, performances and exhibitions. The Black Beauties also added colour and elegance to the celebration.
The carnival provided an opportunity for students from diverse backgrounds to celebrate their traditions with pride while promoting unity, mutual respect and understanding.
It also highlighted the importance of preserving indigenous customs, languages and values and passing them on to future generations.
The event demonstrated that cultural heritage remains a living part of society, continuing to shape identity, strengthen relationships and foster a sense of belonging among people from different backgrounds.
