Buratai inducted as a crisis resolution Fellow, receives multiples awards

The Institute for Crisis Resolution, Peacebuilding, and Conciliation (ICRPC) has bestowed her fellowship and peace ambassadorial award to the immediate past Chief of Army Staff, and now Ambassador-Designate, H.E TukurYusufu Buratai.

The Institute for Crisis Resolution, Peacebuilding, and Conciliation (ICRPC) is a leading professional membership body established in 2009 and authorized by the Federal Government of Nigeria after the due process for the development of Crisis management and peacebuilding in Nigeria through education and personal development/learning. ICRPC is membership-driven with members drawn from both public and private sectors. In addition to setting professional standards, the institute also trains and certifies professional Crisis Managers, Peacebuilding Practitioners, and Conciliators, and inducts them into the Institute as Graduate Members (GICRPC), Associate Members (AICRPC), Full members (MICRPC), Senior Members (SICRPC) and Fellows (FICRPC).

Ambassador Buratai was conferred with the award at the Sinoki Restaurant, Abuja on May 8th, 2021 by the President, and Registrar of the Institute. The President of the Institute, Barrister Mohammed Wakil said that he knew Amb. Buratai right from their university days when Amb. Buratai joined the University of Maiduguri.

“I want to say that my relationship with General Buratai started a long time ago because we were schoolmates. He was my senior but we together. I still remember how he helped us to put the Man O’ War club of the university in shape. I was then the leader of the club. He was a thorough professional; very disciplined. I believe this recognition and fellowship is well deserved, and those who made the nomination did the right thing.,” said Barrister Wakil.

The Registrar of the Institute, Dr. Waheed Odewale, FICRPC, who alongside the President and the Vice President of the Governing of the Council did the investiture of Amb. Buratai as a fellow of the Institute said that the contributions made by General Buratai in the areas of peacebuilding and crisis resolution in Nigeria is noteworthy.

“Even though much still needs to be done, the Institute believes that General Buratai can still contribute to peacebuilding in retirement because he doesn’t appear tired. This Fellowship bestowed on him makes him a certified crisis resolution manager, and we hope that it will go a long way in making him do more to his fatherland,” said Dr Odewale.

In his response, Amb. Tukur Yusufu Buratai thanked the organizers of the event and the Governing Council of ICRPC for finding him worthy of the Fellowship and the ambassadorship.

“I want to thank you all for coming to honour me at such short notice. Insha Allahu we shall continue to do everything humanly possible to build peace in this country, and I look forward to a harmonious working relationship with the Institute. I believe that the Institute and the Tukur Buratai Leadership Centre can partner together in that regard.”

At the event, some youth groups were present to also identify with Ambassador Buratai for his fellowship. To mention but a few, the University of Maiduguri Students Union Government, Yoruba Youth Assembly, Northern Women Association of Nigeria, and The Tiv Peace Initiative of Nigeria bestowed the title of a warrior and decorated him with Tiv warrior regalia.

These groups conferred their highest awards of recognition to the former Army chief and encouraged him to do more for his Fatherland. To vet the authenticity of these youth groups Mr Solomon of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) said that all groups present are true with their intentions and known by the National Youth Council of Nigeria. “We are here as an umbrella body of all youth groups and we are in support of their good intentions,” he said.
