The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), led by its Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, and ICBC Standard Bank have co-hosted an investment engagement in Beijing, China, aimed at strengthening economic cooperation and attracting long-term investment into Nigeria.
The event, titled Nigeria’s Economic and Investment Opportunities Sharing Session, was held on October 22, 2026, under the theme, “Deepening Cooperation for a Shared Future.” It brought together Chinese financial institutions, development finance institutions, investment funds and companies operating in Nigeria.
The session featured a presentation titled Nigeria Rising: Reformed, Resilient, Ready to Scale, which highlighted the country’s economic reform agenda, macroeconomic progress and investment opportunities.
A panel discussion followed, bringing together representatives from the CBN, Standard Bank Group, Flutterwave, Huawei’s Central Bank Business Unit and the China-Africa Fund for Industrial Cooperation to share perspectives on strengthening economic and financial ties between Nigeria and China.
Discussions focused on policy continuity and investor confidence, cross-border payments, local-currency settlement and the role of financial innovation in facilitating trade and investment.
The presentations and panel session linked Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms with the practical considerations of investors, financial institutions and businesses operating across both markets.
The engagement came a day after the CBN’s roundtable on the Nigeria-China financial corridor, expanding discussions from the practical challenges of trade and payments to broader opportunities for investment and economic partnerships.
The Beijing engagement also forms part of the CBN’s wider international outreach, alongside its engagements in Singapore and at the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok.
Through these coordinated engagements across Asia, the CBN is seeking to deepen financial relationships, strengthen market connectivity and support investment flows into Nigeria.
The initiative underscores the importance of investor confidence, reliable financial infrastructure and strategic partnerships in translating stronger Nigeria-China trade relations into sustainable economic growth.
