CDS Advocates for Collaboration in Key Ministries

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, demonstrated his commitment to people-centric leadership by embarking on a series of courtesy visits to key federal ministries.

On April 16, 2024, General Musa visited the Ministers of Works and Housing, as well as Agriculture and Food Security, acknowledging the critical roles these ministries play in national development.

During his visit to the Ministry of Works and Housing, General Musa commended the Minister, Senator Dave Omahi for his efforts in rehabilitating Nigeria’s dilapidated highways. He stressed the importance of good roads to military operations, highlighting the urgent need for attention to roads in areas of military operations. General Musa emphasised, “Good roads are pivotal to military operations.”

In response, Minister Senator Dave Omahi expressed condolences to the CDS on the recent unfortunate killing of military personnel in Delta State. He praised the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) for their handling of the situation and commended their renewed vigour in combating insecurity. The Minister assured of his ministry’s readiness to collaborate with the AFN in rehabilitating roads critical to military operations.

Similarly, at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, General Musa applauded the ministry’s efforts in addressing food security in the country. He expressed the AFN’s desire to work closely with the ministry to resolve farmer-herder conflicts. General Musa also revealed plans for the Defence Headquarters to establish Defence Farms to promote a culture of farming among members of the Armed Forces.

In response, Minister of Agriculture Senator Abubakar Kyari, accompanied by Minister of State Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, appreciated General Musa for being the first Chief of Defence Staff to visit the ministry. He highlighted government policies aimed at improving food security and commended the AFN for ensuring the safe return of farmers to their lands. Minister Kyari called for increased collaboration with the AFN to achieve food sufficiency in Nigeria.
