COAS Commends 4 Brigade Troops in Edo, Pledges Improved Accommodation, Welfare

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has commended troops of the 4 Brigade Nigerian Army for their professionalism, discipline and operational effectiveness in maintaining security in Edo State.

The COAS gave the commendation on Friday, November 6, 2026, during his maiden operational visit to the Brigade Headquarters in Benin City.

Addressing the troops, Lieutenant General Shaibu assured them that arrangements would be made to renovate soldiers’ accommodation to provide decent and conducive living conditions. He also promised to provide a new bus to address transportation challenges within the Brigade.

He further reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to providing functional medical facilities for personnel and their families, including their children.

The Army Chief stressed that troop welfare remains central to operational effectiveness and a major priority under his Soldiers First Culture. He urged personnel to reciprocate the gesture through discipline, professionalism, loyalty and dedication to their responsibilities.

Lieutenant General Shaibu also charged the troops to operate within the provisions of the law, respect the rights of civilians, protect innocent citizens and deal decisively with criminal elements within their Area of Responsibility.

He praised the troops for their contributions to restoring public confidence in the Nigerian Army and commended the Commander of 4 Brigade for his leadership and effective collaboration with sister security agencies and other stakeholders.

The COAS noted that such cooperation aligns with the Strategic Cooperation Pillar of his Command Philosophy.

Earlier, the Commander of 4 Brigade, Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, welcomed the Army Chief and briefed him on the security situation within the Brigade’s Area of Responsibility, as well as its administrative and logistical challenges.

Brigadier General Balogun appreciated the COAS for the visit and assurances of improved welfare, pledging that officers and soldiers of the Brigade would sustain operational gains and consolidate existing security achievements.

Highlights of the visit included the signing of the visitors’ book, presentation of souvenirs, tree planting and group photographs.
