The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the welfare and well-being of Nigerian Army personnel and their families in his address at the Nigerian Army Finance Corps West African Social Activities (WASA) marking the end of 2023.

Highlighting welfare as a foundational pillar in his Command Philosophy, the COAS assured troops that their welfare stands atop his agenda for the Nigerian Army.

General Lagbaja pledged relentless efforts to enhance troops’ welfare and announced forthcoming visible improvements in living accommodations across the NA’s barracks and cantonments in the new year.

The COAS, emphasising the need for prudent resource management in alignment with stringent financial measures, expressed confidence in achieving welfare goals despite budgetary constraints. “Irrespective of belt-tightening measures, the Army Headquarters will continue investing in programs for your welfare and well-being,” asserted General Lagbaja.

Chief of Account and Budget (Army) Major General Adetokunbo Fayemiwo commended the COAS for supporting the Corps, enhancing personnel capacities. He described WASA as a cultural showcase and an opportunity for soldiers to unwind after a demanding year.

In a related event, the Nigerian Army Finance Corps honoured retired senior officers in a Pulling Out Parade, recognising their dedicated service. The honourees included Maj Gen AO Adetayo (Rtd), Maj Gen JE Jakko (Rtd), Maj Gen AR Bakare (Rtd), Maj Gen AB Adamu (Rtd), Brig Gen NL Isama (Rtd), Brig Gen OF Ohunyeye (Rtd), Brig Gen OA Adenuga (Rtd), and Brig Gen II Adamu (Rtd).

The WASA 2023 featured cultural performances, a tug of war between female soldiers and soldiers’ wives, award presentations to outstanding soldiers, and recognition of performing cultural troupes.
