In a heartfelt farewell message, Alhaji Adedayo Thomas, the former Executive Director/CEO of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), expressed gratitude and reflections on his legacy as he steps down from his role.

Thomas is currently engaged in his PhD practical work in Obollo Afor, Enugu State, when he received the news of new Chief Executive Officers’ appointments under the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He expressed deep appreciation to Almighty Allah, feeling fulfilled and accomplished after serving two successful terms in office.

During his tenure at NFVCB, Thomas, in collaboration with various industry stakeholders, left an indelible footprint.

With support from the federal government and key ministers, the NFVCB provided policy advisory services, fostering growth in the film industry and empowering its management and staff to meet the Board’s mandate effectively.

Under Thomas’s leadership, the number of cinemas in Nigeria increased significantly, marking a strategic intervention to combat piracy and bring socio-economic benefits to the nation. Empowerment and enlightenment campaigns reached over 10,000 women and youth across Nigeria.

Events like the Nigeria Digital Content Regulations Conference strengthened the synergy between the Board and industry practitioners, with the latest edition held in Lagos in December 2023.

Thomas expressed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to contribute to the Renewed Hope Agenda in the Nigerian film industry. He also acknowledged former President Muhammadu Buhari for the trust and confidence reposed in him during his seven-year tenure.

Acknowledging various stakeholders, academics, the organised private sector, political associates, and more, Thomas extended his congratulations to his successor, Dr. Shaibu Husseini. “I have confidence in Husseini’s ability to surpass my achievements given his pedigree and collaborative efforts during Thomas’s tenure.”

In conclusion, Thomas thanked his immediate family, NFVCB staff, and stakeholders, emphasising their collective efforts in leaving behind a re-energined and strengthened Board.

The farewell message concluded with gratitude to all and blessings for the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
