Defence Minister Announces South-East Regional Basketball Championship to Discover Young Talents

The Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), OFR, has announced plans to establish a South-East Regional Basketball Championship as part of efforts to identify, develop and nurture emerging basketball talents across the region.

The Minister made the announcement during his visit to the maiden Crossover Foundation Basketball Camp in Umuahia, Abia State, where he also made a donation in support of the youth development initiative.

General Musa commended the organisers of the basketball camp and the Abia State Government for promoting youth development through sports, describing such initiatives as important platforms for discovering young talents and providing them with opportunities to reach their full potential.

He encouraged parents to support their children in participating in organised sporting activities, noting that sports can provide young people with opportunities for personal development, discipline and productive careers.

The Defence Minister further disclosed that the Armed Forces of Nigeria would soon introduce sports-based recruitment opportunities for outstanding young athletes in the South-East.

According to him, the initiative would create a pathway for talented athletes to develop their sporting careers while contributing their skills to national service.

The proposed regional basketball championship is expected to provide a broader platform for young players across the South-East to compete, gain exposure and attract opportunities for further development.

General Musa reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that empower young Nigerians, promote sporting excellence and provide constructive opportunities for the country’s youth.
