DHQ Slams Amnesty International, says Report ‘Unprofessional and Biased’ and Lacks Credibility

The Defence Headquarters has dismissed allegations made by Amnesty International against the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), labelling them as “unprofessional and biased”.
In a press statement, Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, emphasized that the AFN operates within the bounds of international law and humanitarian principles, adhering to a strict code of conduct.
The military refuted Amnesty International’s claims, stating that they are unfounded and lack substance. Instead of engaging in a war of words, the AFN invited Amnesty International to substantiate their allegations through official channels, leveraging the military’s self-regulating mechanisms to address any misconduct.
The statement reiterated the military’s zero-tolerance policy for indiscipline and improper conduct, with standing court martials in place to address erring personnel. The AFN remains focused on its objective to defeat terrorism, unperturbed by what it considers “self-serving statements” aimed at dampening troop morale.
The military extended an olive branch, offering to engage constructively with Amnesty International, while preaffirming its commitment to conducting operations with diligence and professionalism.
