DHQ Warns Public Against Fake Video Attributing False Statement to CDS

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has alerted the public about a circulating fake video falsely depicting a statement from the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General OO Oluyede AFM, claiming the military intends to forcibly recruit young Nigerians from the age of 18.

According to a statement issued by Director of Defence Information, Samaila Uba, the video is a maliciously cloned production designed to defame the CDS and portray the Nigerian military negatively. The statement emphasizes that no such directive exists and that the military continues to attract thousands of patriotic Nigerians who willingly join its ranks through legitimate recruitment exercises.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the purported statement was never made by the CDS, any Service Chief, or any member of the Armed Forces of Nigeria,” the DHQ clarified.

The Defence Headquarters further cautioned that in today’s age of Artificial Intelligence, disinformation, and malinformation, individuals must verify the source and authenticity of statements before creating or sharing content online.

All official statements from the CDS are to be sourced from verified DHQ spokespersons and official social media handles. The public is urged to disregard the fake video and statement circulating online.
