EFCC Arraigns Two FCDA Staff Over Alleged Illegal Sale of FCT Staff Houses

The Abuja Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned two staff members of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) over the alleged illegal sale of government-owned staff houses in Abuja.

The defendants, Folashade Oketope and Mohammed Kabir Usman, were arraigned on Monday, July 13, 2026, before Justice B.M. Bassi of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Jabi, on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, criminal breach of trust and corruption.

According to the EFCC, the defendants allegedly conspired to unlawfully sell four Federal Capital Territory staff houses located at Plot 756, Abubakar Usman Crescent, Jabi District, Abuja, identified as Houses 3, 4, 7 and 8, between 2024 and 2025.

The Commission alleged that the defendants, who were entrusted with the management of the government properties, dishonestly converted the houses to personal use by selling them to private individuals.

The anti-graft agency further accused the defendants of corruptly receiving ₦5 million and ₦4 million, respectively, from one Anthony Ezekwugo as inducement to facilitate the unlawful sale of the properties.

The offences are said to contravene the provisions of the Penal Code Act and the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.

Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Following their plea, prosecution counsel, F.S. Mohammed, asked the court to fix a date for trial and order the defendants’ remand in correctional facilities pending the determination of the case.

Counsel to the defendants, L. Ojinma, however, applied for their bail.

Justice Bassi granted each defendant bail in the sum of ₦10 million with one reliable surety resident within the Federal Capital Territory.

The court ruled that the sureties must provide evidence of ownership of landed property in the FCT, depose to affidavits of means and submit recent passport photographs.

Pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions, the court ordered that Folashade Oketope be remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre, while Mohammed Kabir Usman was remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre.

The matter was adjourned until October 21, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
