EFCC Recovers ₦104 Million Unremitted Tax for Niger State Government

The Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has recovered and handed over ₦104,091,162.46 to the Niger State Government, representing unremitted tax liabilities owed by Kiara Rice Mills Limited, a company based in Kpatsuwa Village, Mokwa Local Government Area of the state.

The official handover ceremony took place on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the EFCC’s zonal office in GRA, Ilorin. According to the Commission, the recovered funds covered tax obligations accrued between 2021 and 2024, which the company had failed to remit despite operating profitably.

Acting on credible intelligence received in February 2025, the EFCC launched an investigation through its Foreign Exchange Malpractice Section, confirming the infractions and ensuring full recovery of the outstanding taxes.

Speaking during the event, EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, represented by the Ilorin Zonal Director, Commander CE Ansalem Ozioko, Ph.D., reaffirmed the Commission’s dedication to accountability and fiscal transparency.

“The function of the EFCC is to prevent, investigate, and prosecute economic and financial crimes, recover what was stolen, and return it to the rightful owners. That is exactly what we are doing here today,” Olukoyede said.

He called for continued collaboration between the EFCC and the Niger State Government in ensuring transparency and fiscal discipline.

“We urge you to continue partnering with the Commission and to be ambassadors of the EFCC by reporting any act that fails the integrity test,” he added.

Receiving the recovered funds on behalf of the state, Alhaji Aminu Bawa, Group Head of Tax Operations at the Niger State Internal Revenue Service (NSIRS), commended the EFCC for its professionalism and commitment to protecting public resources.
