The defections were announced during plenary presided over by House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas. Letters from the lawmakers, read on the floor, cited ongoing internal crises within the NNPP as the primary reason for their decision to switch allegiance.

The announcement was witnessed by Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, and other notable political figures.
