Federal Government Launches Electronic Verification for Military Pensioners

By Ayshatu S. Rabo

In a significant move aimed at transforming military pension administration, the Chairman of the Military Pensions Board (MPB), Air Vice Marshal Paul Irumheson, announced the federal government’s approval of an electronic verification system for military pensioners.

The Chairman made the announcement during a press briefing on Friday in Abuja on Friday.

AVM Irumheson emphasised that the electronic verification exercise, set to commence nationwide, is designed to address various challenges associated with the traditional physical verification process.

“The electronic system aims to eliminate issues of impersonation and reduce the security risks and transportation costs for our aged pensioners,” he stated.

” Following a successful pilot test conducted from February 15 to March 1, which saw only 15 out of 2,000 pensioners fail the process, the system has been refined based on observed feedback.

The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, have given the green light for the full-scale implementation.

AVM Irumheson assured that the board would undertake comprehensive public awareness campaigns to ensure pensioners can easily navigate the new system.

He urged all military pensioners to participate actively in the electronic verification exercise, which will run from July 1 to September 30.

“Those who fail to complete the verification will cease to receive their pensions,” he warned.
