FG Explains How Nigerians Can Access ₦50,000 NERSI Relief Grant, Warns Against Fraud

The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction has provided clarification on the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI), a Federal Government initiative designed to support vulnerable households affected by rising living costs.

The Ministry explained that the ₦50,000 support is a grant and not a loan, adding that beneficiaries would receive the full amount without deductions or any repayment obligation.

According to the Ministry, beneficiaries will be selected from the National Social Register and verified national identity records based on established poverty and vulnerability criteria, covering all six geopolitical zones.

It stressed that there is no application or registration process, warning that no individual, government official or agent can influence the selection of beneficiaries.

The Ministry said selected beneficiaries would receive SMS notifications from authorised digital financial service providers, containing instructions on how to accept and access the support.

It explained that beneficiaries may be required to reply YES to the notification or dial the designated USSD code of their payment provider to give consent and receive the money directly into their mobile wallets.

The approved payment platforms and their USSD codes include:

ALAT by Wema Bank – 94523#

MoMo PSB – \*6710#

NairaGram – \*72600#

OPay – 95520#

Moniepoint – 557327#

The Ministry noted that beneficiaries can access the service through USSD without a smartphone or internet connection.

It further warned Nigerians against fraudsters demanding money to facilitate selection or payment, stressing that beneficiaries are not required to pay any fee, register through an agent or click on any registration link to receive the grant.

The Ministry also advised beneficiaries not to disclose their Personal Identification Numbers (PINs), One-Time Passwords (OTPs) or Bank Verification Numbers (BVNs) to anyone.

For enquiries and complaints, members of the public were advised to contact the official NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring transparent and accountable delivery of the intervention to vulnerable Nigerians in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
