The Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning, Doris Uzoka-Anite, has officially flagged off the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS7) Data Interpretation and Report Compilation Workshop in Abuja.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, the minister described the MICS7 survey as the most comprehensive assessment of the conditions of children and women across Nigeria, providing critical data on key sectors including education, nutrition, healthcare, water supply and sanitation.

According to her, the survey findings will provide policymakers with reliable evidence needed to design effective programmes and interventions aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians.

“You cannot improve what you do not measure,” the minister stated, emphasizing the importance of data-driven planning and decision-making.

She noted that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the Federal Government remains committed to building a stronger economy through strategic investments in human capital development.

The minister stressed that government policies and budgetary allocations must be guided by accurate data to ensure improved outcomes for children, women and vulnerable groups across the country.

She commended the efforts of the National Bureau of Statistics and development partners, including UNICEF, the European Union, Canada and the World Bank, for supporting the initiative.

Anite also praised the data experts and technical teams participating in the four-day workshop, noting that their work would contribute significantly to evidence-based policy formulation and national development planning.

The workshop is expected to produce detailed analyses and reports from the MICS7 survey, with the official findings scheduled for release in August 2026.

The survey results are anticipated to provide valuable insights into the wellbeing of women and children in Nigeria and help shape future government interventions aimed at improving social and economic outcomes nationwide.
