FG Inaugurates Communication Sub-Committee to Strengthen Ebola Preparedness
The Federal Government has inaugurated the Communication, Diplomacy and International Engagement Sub-Committee of the Presidential Task Force on Ebola Virus Disease as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s preparedness and response to potential public health threats.
The inaugural meeting was held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation in Abuja.
The meeting was attended by the Honourable Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, who serves as the Deputy Chairman of the sub-committee. The committee is chaired by the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris.
The inaugural session brought together representatives from key Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), professional bodies and international development partners to coordinate strategic communication and diplomatic engagement on Ebola prevention and response.
Among the participating organisations were the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), the National Orientation Agency (NOA), the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), the World Health Organization (WHO), the Border Communities Development Agency, and other relevant stakeholders.
The sub-committee is expected to coordinate public communication, diplomatic engagement and international collaboration to ensure timely dissemination of accurate information, strengthen public awareness and enhance coordination with neighbouring countries and international partners.
The initiative forms part of the Federal Government’s broader strategy to safeguard public health, strengthen disease surveillance and improve national preparedness, particularly in view of cross-border movement and international travel.
