FG to Upgrade Nigerian Army University, Build Africa’s First Military Performance Centre

The Federal Government has pledged to undertake a major transformation of the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB), with plans to strengthen its infrastructure and position it as a leading institution for specialised military and civilian education.
The commitment was made by the Minister of Defence, retired General Christopher Gwabin Musa, when he received members of the university’s Governing Council at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja.
The minister said the government remained committed to supporting the institution because of its strategic role in producing the technical and operational expertise needed to address Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
According to him, the Ministry of Defence will work closely with the Armed Forces of Nigeria to maximise the 30 per cent admission quota reserved for military personnel in order to bridge critical skills gaps within the nation’s security architecture.
“As the Federal Government pushes for a highly skilled workforce in this digital era, we must encourage members of the Armed Forces, ministry staff and the general public to leverage the cutting-edge technological and academic solutions available at NAUB,” Musa said.
A major outcome of the meeting was a joint commitment by the ministry and the university’s Governing Council to address key infrastructural deficiencies on the campus.
Among the proposed projects is the construction of a state-of-the-art Centre for Military Performance Management, which the ministry described as the first facility of its kind in Africa.
The minister said the planned developments would enhance the university’s capacity to deliver specialised education, research and professional training in support of national security and defence operations.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation and Pioneer Pro-Chancellor of the university, retired Lt.-Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, commended Musa for what he described as his strategic leadership and commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s defence architecture.
Buratai expressed appreciation for the minister’s support for the Armed Forces and the university, assuring him of the institution’s continued dedication to academic excellence, research and national service.
Established to promote military education alongside conventional academic programmes, the Nigerian Army University Biu plays a key role in developing the skilled manpower required to meet Nigeria’s defence and national development objectives.
