Flood Crisis: NGO Warns of Looming Disease Outbreaks in Bauchi, Calls for Urgent Action

The Leadtots Development Initiative, a non-governmental organization (NGO), has raised alarm over the devastating floods that have ravaged several communities in Bauchi State, leaving thousands homeless and disrupting essential services, including immunization efforts.

Executive Director Nicholas Afeso expressed concerns in a press statement made available to Journalists in Bauchi on Tuesday.

He noted the unprecedented hardship caused by the floods in Shira, Katagum, Jamaare, and Gamawa Local Government Areas, where critical infrastructure like bridges have been washed away.

Afeso urged the Bauchi State Government, stakeholders, and partners to take immediate action to alleviate the suffering of those affected, warning that the situation is dire, with many families displaced, farmlands destroyed, and public health efforts severely impeded.

He emphasized the need for immediate relief and shelter for displaced families, restoration of critical infrastructure, strengthened immunization efforts, particularly targeting zero-dose children, and support for farmers to restore livelihoods.

Afeso stressed that without swift action, the consequences will be devastating for the residents and the state at large, calling on all concerned to act now to save lives and restore hope to the affected communities.
