Gambia Armed Forces Graduates New Instructors After Six-Week Training Programme

The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) on Friday, February 27, 2026, held a graduation ceremony for a new cohort of instructors who successfully completed a six-week Training of Trainers (ToT) course at the Gambia Armed Forces Training School (GAFTS), Fajara.

The course, which comprised 29 GAF personnel, reflects the Armed Forces’ sustained commitment to professional development, capacity building, and institutional strengthening. The programme combined classroom instruction with intensive practical exercises, covering key areas such as methods of instruction, ground navigation, map reading, field craft, and minor tactics.

Addressing the graduands, the Commandant of GAFTS, Abdoulie Secka, highlighted the critical responsibility attached to the role of an instructor. He noted that the strength of any army lies in the competence of its trainers, charging the newly certified instructors to uphold discipline, professionalism, and ethical conduct while mentoring younger soldiers across the Armed Forces.

Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Commander of the Gambia National Army, Brigadier General Sait Njie, the Commanding Officer of 1 Infantry Battalion, Ousman Bah, commended the participants for their dedication and resilience throughout the course. He emphasized that the essence of the Training of Trainers programme is the multiplication of knowledge through effective transfer, urging the graduates to disseminate their skills within their respective units and formations.

Colonel Bah described the programme as a strategic pillar of institutional development, noting that equipping personnel with modern instructional methods and a strong ethical foundation not only advances individual careers but also enhances the overall operational readiness of the Armed Forces.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates to the graduates, marking their readiness to assume key instructional roles within the Gambia Armed Forces. The event was characterized by a strong sense of pride and accomplishment, reinforcing the GAF’s resolve to maintain high standards of professionalism and effectiveness through quality training and leadership.
