Gambia Army Concludes Four-Week Counter-Insurgency, Internal Security Course
The 2 Infantry Battalion of the Gambia National Army (GNA), based in Farafenni, has concluded a four-week Counter-Insurgency and Internal Security Operations Course for its personnel.
The closing ceremony, held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at the Battalion Headquarters in Farafenni, was presided over by the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Ebrima I. Krubally.
The course, conducted in line with the directives of the Commander GNA Training Cycle, was designed to strengthen the knowledge, skills and operational readiness of personnel to effectively respond to insurgency situations, internal security challenges and emerging threats to national peace and stability.
Presenting the course highlights, the Training Officer, Second Lieutenant Muhammed Jallow, said the training covered both theoretical and practical aspects of counter-insurgency and internal security operations.
He explained that participants underwent classroom lessons, practical activities and field-based exercises, with emphasis on professionalism, discipline and respect for the rule of law during security operations.
The personnel also participated in physical fitness activities, including the Basic Fitness Test (BFT), Combat Fitness Test (CFT) and Stamina Assessment Test (SAT), designed to assess their physical readiness and endurance.
Speaking at the ceremony, Lieutenant Colonel Krubally commended the participants and instructors for their dedication and commitment throughout the four-week programme.
He noted that significant improvements were recorded among the participants, stressing the importance of continuous learning and physical fitness in preparing military personnel to meet operational demands.
The Commanding Officer urged the graduating personnel to remain obedient, disciplined and cooperative with the chain of command, while congratulating the instructors and young officers who coordinated the training.
The course exposed participants to key areas including counter-insurgency principles, internal security operations, intelligence gathering, leadership, communication and inter-service cooperation with other security agencies.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates to the course participants.
