Shettima Commends Kukah Centre, ProFuturo Foundation on Digital Education Initiative

Vice President Kashim Shettima has lauded the partnership between the Kukah Centre and the ProFuturo Foundation for advancing quality digital education, particularly in vulnerable and underserved communities across Nigeria.

Speaking on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Kukah Centre and ProFuturo Foundation led by Bishop Matthew Kukah at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the Vice President said the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s commitment to skills development under the Renewed Hope Agenda and the National Council on Skills.

Senator Shettima, who was briefed on the achievements of the programme since its introduction in Nigeria in 2017, expressed satisfaction with the progress made in improving school enrolment, teaching quality, and digital learning opportunities for students.

While acknowledging the successes recorded so far, the Vice President noted that more work remains to be done in expanding access to quality education in a country with a rapidly growing population and competing development priorities.

To deepen the impact of the initiative, Shettima proposed closer collaboration between the programme’s implementing partners and key education stakeholders, including the National Board for Technical Education (NABTE), the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), the Federal Ministry of Education, and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

According to him, such engagement would encourage the exchange of ideas and the development of practical solutions to challenges affecting school enrolment and educational outcomes across the country.

The Vice President also pledged to introduce the ProFuturo initiative to the National Economic Council (NEC) as part of efforts to promote the digitisation of Universal Basic Education Boards nationwide.

Earlier, Bishop Matthew Kukah said the delegation’s visit was aimed at demonstrating support for the administration’s efforts to improve digital education in Nigeria. He praised the Vice President’s commitment to expanding digital learning opportunities, describing it as vital for preparing young Nigerians for a technology-driven global economy.

Also speaking, the Deputy Director to the President of the ProFuturo Foundation, Albert Martinez, attributed the programme’s success in Nigeria to strong local partnerships and sustained political support.

Project Coordinator Dr. Emmanuel Nkanta disclosed that since its launch, the initiative has reached 13 states, 123 schools, over 72,000 students, and 1,150 teachers. He called for increased partnerships and funding to enable the programme to expand its reach across the country.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu; Head of Global Operations of the ProFuturo Foundation, Tomas Mensi; the Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr. Aisha Garba; and other senior officials.
