GOC 8 Division Visits Frontline Troops in Sokoto, Reaffirms Offensive Against Lakurawa Terrorists
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander, Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Paul Bengba Koughna, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s determination to sustain offensive operations against the Lakurawa terrorist group and other criminal elements operating in the North-West.
Major General Koughna made the commitment during an operational visit to the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Sabon Birni and Takasaba Outpost in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Thursday.
The GOC, who was accompanied by the Commander, 8 Division Garrison, Brigadier General A.J. Mohammed, said the visit was part of ongoing efforts to assess the operational readiness of troops and strengthen security measures in frontline areas.
Addressing troops at the operational bases, Major General Koughna commended their resilience, professionalism and dedication in protecting communities despite the prevailing security challenges. He urged them to remain vigilant, maintain a high level of operational preparedness and intensify ongoing operations aimed at denying terrorists freedom of action.
The GOC also interacted with members of the host communities, assuring them of the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property. He appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence to facilitate ongoing operations against terrorists and other criminal groups.
He noted that effective collaboration between the military and local communities remains critical to achieving lasting peace and restoring normalcy in affected areas.
The operational visit, which was completed without any security incident, forms part of Operation FANSAN YAMMA’s sustained efforts to boost troop morale, strengthen operational effectiveness and reinforce public confidence in the military’s ongoing campaign against insecurity across the North-West.
