Gwani Joins APC, Hails Tinubu’s Reforms as Plateau Politics Heats

Thousands Cheer as Former Rep. Declares for Ruling Party, Promises Renewed Hope for Bassa/Jos North

In a strategic political move set to reshape the landscape of Plateau State politics, former Member of the House of Representatives for Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency, Hon. Muhammad Adam Alkali, popularly known as Gwani, has officially defected from the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This development was contained in a press statement issued in Gombe by his spokesperson, Abu-Maleek, and comes as Nigeria gears up for the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a well-attended declaration ceremony, Hon. Alkali said his decision to join the APC was driven by the remarkable developmental strides and economic reforms spearheaded by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He praised the President’s administration for what he described as a new wave of national progress and democratic consolidation.

“I am joining the APC because of the visible and impactful changes President Tinubu has brought to the nation, especially in the areas of economic revitalisation, infrastructure, and commitment to democratic ideals,” Gwani stated.

In a show of political solidarity, Hon. Dr. Adamu Aliyu, Member representing Jos North-North in the Plateau State House of Assembly, welcomed Gwani to the APC fold, describing his defection as a “game changer” for the party’s prospects in Plateau.

“Gwani’s entrance into APC is a strong signal that the party is poised to reclaim Plateau come 2027. His grassroots influence and unmatched popularity make him a political force,” Hon. Aliyu declared.

Well-known for his influence and widespread appeal, Gwani’s name resonates deeply across Plateau State. His move triggered a wave of excitement among party loyalists and supporters, many of whom believe his leadership could redefine the APC’s fortunes in the state.

The declaration ceremony drew an impressive crowd of political heavyweights and grassroots supporters. Dignitaries in attendance included former Secretary to the State Government Prof. Danladi Abok Atu, APC Jos North Chairman Alhaji Sani Gangare, and several former commissioners and local government leaders such as Hon. Yusha Mazadu, Hon. Ben Jang, Hon. Shina Agada, Hon. Adala, Hon. Sulaiman Tamin (Sultan), Hon. Umar Alfa, Hon. Salman Hassan Dikko, Hon. Adam Abdullahi, Hon. Jamilu Baba, and Alhaji Babangida Sa’idu Zaki.

Thousands of supporters from Bassa, Jos North, and other parts of Plateau thronged the venue, chanting solidarity songs and hailing Gwani’s move as timely and visionary.

As political realignments continue across Nigeria, analysts say Gwani’s defection signals a significant shift and a possible resurgence of the APC in Plateau State.

“We pray that Hon. Gwani’s move brings blessings and progress to the good people of Plateau State,” echoed the crowd in unison.

With 2027 on the horizon, all eyes are now on the APC’s next steps—and Gwani’s evolving role in shaping the future of Plateau politics.
