Iconic Nollywood Actor, Mr Ibu Passes Away, Leaving Fans in Grief

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, the Nigerian film industry is plunged into sorrow once more with the untimely demise of veteran Nollywood actor John Okafor, fondly known as Mr Ibu.
This tragic loss comes less than 24 hours after the passing of Quadri Oyebamiji, also known as Sisi Quadri, leaving fans and colleagues in shock and grief.
The renowned comic actor, recognized for his infectious humor, bid farewell to the world after a prolonged battle with health issues. Mr Ibu, who recently underwent surgeries resulting in the amputation of his leg, succumbed to the inevitable embrace of death.
His absence from the limelight for over three years had sparked speculations about his well-being, intensifying when news of his ailing health went viral. In 2019, Mr Ibu made startling revelations, alleging that his kinsmen had orchestrated a poisoning plot through some domestic workers due to his successful career. These claims resurfaced in May 2022, as he asserted being poisoned for the third time.
In an illuminating interview with Vanguard Newspaper, Okafor candidly shared his near-death experience, recounting moments of seeing “people on the other side.” The actor attributed his survival to divine intervention, narrating how doctors, akin to prophets, diagnosed and treated him. Expressing his determination to live, he pleaded with medical practitioners to take whatever actions necessary to save him from the clutches of death.
Mr Ibu revealed that during his illness, he spoke in a manner that seemed akin to madness, as recorded by those around him. However, he clarified that in that vulnerable state, he was not actually perceiving the physical world but witnessing surreal visions on “the other side.” Grateful for divine intervention, he acknowledged the joy his enemies felt about his affliction but emphasized that God brought him back to life, defying their expectations.
In a reflective tone, the actor admitted that his health ordeal imparted a profound lesson, expressing his astonishment at still being alive. As condolences pour in from across the industry, fans and admirers mourn the loss of a comedic legend whose impact will endure through the laughter and joy he brought to countless lives.
