IGP Disu Receives NIPR Delegation, Seeks Stronger Police Communication Strategy
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, has called for stronger collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) to enhance public confidence and strengthen communication on policing and national security.
The IGP made the call on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, when he received a delegation of the NIPR, led by its President and Chairman of Council, Dr Ike Neliaku, fnipr, on a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
During the visit, Dr Neliaku commended the IGP for his professional accomplishments and briefed him on Nigeria’s hosting of the 2026 World Public Relations Forum and Africa Charter Forum at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.
The forum is expected to attract more than 3,000 delegates from 126 member countries of the Global Alliance for Public Relations.
The NIPR delegation sought the support of the Nigeria Police Force for security planning and coverage of the event. It also invited the IGP to deliver a keynote address and encouraged police officers to participate as registered delegates.
Responding, IGP Disu noted that the Police Force and NIPR share a common responsibility to build public confidence through professionalism, transparency, fairness and effective communication.
He stressed that every police officer serves as an image-maker of the Force, as the conduct of personnel in their daily interactions directly influences public perception of policing.
The IGP reiterated the Force’s commitment to policing by consent and a service-oriented policing culture anchored on professionalism, empathy, accountability and respect for human rights.
He also requested the support of the NIPR in providing specialised communication training for police personnel and developing a coherent messaging framework to effectively communicate the sacrifices, dedication and contributions of police officers to public safety and national security.
Members of the delegation included the Secretary-General of the African Public Relations Association, Dr Omoniyi Ibietan, fnipr; Dr Suleiman Haruna, mnipr; Mr Maryam Sanusi, fnipr; Mrs Olubunmi Badejo, fnipr; Commandant Olusola Odumosu; Chief Uzoma Oyegbadu, fnipr; Chief Moji Makanjuola, MFR, fnipr; Mr Stanley Ogadigo, fnipr, among others.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to productive partnerships with professional bodies and other relevant stakeholders in strengthening public trust, public safety and national security.
