Ilorin court remands man, 52, for alleged cheating

An Upper Area Court in Ilorin has remanded a 52-year-old man Adeola Olalekan, over alleged criminal breach of trust, cheating, and impersonation.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Iwaloye AbdulRauf told the court that the accused defrauded one Suleiman Yusuf of N1.7million by promising to secure a job for him at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

AbdulRauf said that the money was paid in batches starting from N41, 000 in 2020.

He said that the complainant, a student of Kwara State University, Malete was forced to drop out of school because the money was his school fees.

The prosecutor said that the accused continued to disturb Yusuf for more money and failed to secure the job for him as promised.

The accused pleaded guilty to the charges and promised to pay back the money.

The presiding Judge, Moshood Ajibade granted him bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Ajibade said that one of the sureties must be his family relation and the other must be his colleague in the office.

He also ordered him to make a cash payment of N1 million to the complainant, as a precondition for the bail and adjourned the case until June 6, for further mention.
