ITF Begins Nationwide Screening of Artisans Under SUPA Programme
The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) has commenced the nationwide screening of shortlisted practising artisans under its Skill Up Artisans (SUPA) programme across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The screening exercise marks another milestone in the Federal Government’s efforts to develop a highly skilled and globally competitive workforce in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Speaking during the screening exercise in Jos, Plateau State, the Director-General and Chief Executive of the ITF, Dr. Afiz Oluwatoyin Ogun, represented by the Director of the Technical and Vocational Skills Training Department, Mrs. Nancy Ndidiamaka Ekong, said the programme is designed to enhance the competence of practising artisans across various trades.
She explained that the Skill Up Artisans (SUPA) initiative is not an empowerment programme but a strategic intervention aimed at upgrading the skills of artisans through internationally recognised certification, improved professionalism and enhanced employability.
According to her, the programme is expected to equip artisans with globally acceptable standards that will improve their productivity, expand business opportunities and increase their competitiveness both within and outside Nigeria.
Mrs. Ekong noted that the initiative forms part of broader efforts by the Federal Government to strengthen technical and vocational skills development, promote entrepreneurship and bridge the country’s skills gap.
She urged all shortlisted participants to take advantage of the opportunity, stressing that the programme would position Nigerian artisans to compete effectively in the global labour market while contributing to national economic growth and industrial development.
