The Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Presidency to support the implementation of the amended National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Act 2026, following a strategic engagement with the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NIMC, Engr. Bisoye Coker-Odusote, and her management team in Abuja.

The meeting, held at the office of the Central Results Delivery Coordination Unit (CRDCU), focused on strengthening inter-agency collaboration to ensure the effective implementation of the newly amended legislation across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

In her opening remarks, Bala Usman congratulated the NIMC Director-General on the successful amendment of the NIMC Act, recently signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the legislation as a significant milestone in strengthening Nigeria’s identity management system.

She noted that the amended Act would enhance governance, improve public service delivery and support the administration’s ongoing reforms.

Speaking during the engagement, Engr. Coker-Odusote said the visit was aimed at seeking the support of the Office of the Special Adviser on Policy and Coordination and the CRDCU in driving the implementation of the amended Act across relevant government institutions.

She stressed that effective inter-agency coordination would be critical to ensuring seamless adoption of the new legal provisions by Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

According to her, the amended NIMC Act provides a stronger framework for identity verification, data integration and collaboration among government institutions, while enhancing efficiency in the country’s identity management system.

The NIMC Director-General explained that the legislation would have far-reaching benefits across critical sectors, including financial services, healthcare, education, telecommunications, social investment programmes, security and public service delivery.

She added that the reforms would improve transparency, strengthen access to government services and support Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.

In her closing remarks, Bala Usman pledged the full support of her office in driving the implementation of the amended Act, assuring that the CRDCU would work closely with the Commission to coordinate implementation across MDAs, monitor progress and ensure the objectives of the legislation are fully realised.

She emphasised that sustained collaboration between the Presidency and NIMC would be essential to delivering improved identity management services and enhancing service delivery for Nigerians.
