Kaduna Police Condemn Mob Killing of Woman Accused of Child Theft
The Kaduna State Police Command has condemned the mob violence that led to the killing of a woman in Maraban Jos, Kaduna State, describing the incident as a barbaric act and a direct attack on the rule of law.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, the woman was accused of child theft by members of the public on Saturday, June 21, 2026.
The police said officers intervened and took the woman into protective custody at a police station to ensure her safety while investigations into the allegation commenced.
However, the situation escalated when a large crowd reportedly stormed the station, overwhelmed officers on duty, forcefully removed the woman from custody, killed her and set her body ablaze.
The victim was said to be a resident of Maraban Jos.
The Command described the incident as a criminal act that undermines justice and warned that no individual or group has the right to take the law into their own hands.
Police authorities disclosed that several suspects have already been arrested in connection with the attack, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals involved in the mob action.
The statement added that a full-scale investigation has been launched and assured that all those found culpable would be prosecuted.
Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, condemned the incident and warned against acts of jungle justice, mob violence and attacks on police facilities or personnel.
He urged residents to report suspicious persons and criminal activities to security agencies and allow lawful procedures to take their course.
The Kaduna State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that justice is served in accordance with the law.
