Kaduna State gets committee to address land dispute

The Kaduna State Government has set up a committee to address the lingering land dispute between a community and a military institution.

The affected Basawa community in Sabon Gari Local Government Area has a protracted land dispute with the 11 Field Engineers Nigeria Army located in the area.

The state delegation was led by Alhaji Abdullahi Salihu, Director Land Dispute, Kaduna State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, to a meeting at the Sabon Gari council.

The meeting was attended by the Surveyor-General of Kaduna State and representatives of Zazzau Emirate Council, community leaders, the Sabon Gari council, security agencies and the commandant Basawa Barracks.

Salihu said the meeting was a fact-finding mission with a view to reporting back to the state government for an amicable resolution of the matter, thereafter the meeting went into a closed-door session.

Malam Siraju Bomo, the Chairman of, Bomo Land Dispute Committee, said the meeting was convened to reconcile the community and Basawa Barracks over a land dispute.

He said the community had formally complained to Gov. Nasir el-Rufai over the land issues between the two contenders on Oct. 1, 2021.

“Subsequent upon the formal complaint to the state government, Gov. el-Rufai set up an inter-ministerial committee chaired by Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

“Other members of the committee were the Surveyor-General of Kaduna State, Zazzau Emirate Council, Sabon Gari Local Government and other members of the security agencies,” he said.

He said the Bomo community was optimistic that the committee would do justice to the issues. (NAN)
