Kaduna Strengthens Partnership with Gates Foundation to Improve Healthcare Delivery

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, CON, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to deepening its strategic partnership with the Gates Foundation to strengthen healthcare delivery and accelerate sustainable development across the state.

The Governor stated this while receiving a delegation from the Gates Foundation, led by its Nigeria Country Director, Mr. Uche Amaonwu, during a meeting focused on advancing healthcare and development outcomes in Kaduna State.

The discussions reviewed progress recorded through the Foundation’s support, particularly in strengthening the state’s health system, expanding Universal Health Coverage, revitalising Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) and establishing a Data Intelligence Unit to support evidence-based planning, policymaking and service delivery.

Governor Sani said the meeting also provided an opportunity for both parties to review existing commitments and agree on practical measures to further strengthen their collaboration and deliver greater benefits to the people of Kaduna State.

He reaffirmed his administration’s determination to build a resilient, inclusive and people-centred healthcare system, noting that at least 255 Primary Healthcare Centres have been upgraded to Level II status across the state.

According to the Governor, the administration has also commissioned the 300-bed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Specialist Hospital, undertaken comprehensive renovations of General Hospitals and expanded health insurance coverage to provide greater access to healthcare for vulnerable residents.

Governor Sani expressed particular satisfaction with the Gates Foundation’s recognition of Kaduna State as one of its leading subnational partners.

He disclosed that Kaduna had been selected as the first destination for the Foundation’s global leadership team during its forthcoming visit to Nigeria, where the team is expected to study the progress achieved through the partnership.

To sustain the momentum and strengthen accountability, both parties also agreed to institutionalise quarterly strategic review meetings to assess progress, address emerging challenges and accelerate the delivery of measurable healthcare and development outcomes.

The Governor stressed that strong partnerships based on mutual trust, innovation and shared objectives remain essential to building healthier communities and creating a more prosperous future for the people of Kaduna State.
