Kalu Visits Over 130 Constituents Undergoing Artisan Skills Training

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has visited more than 130 constituents participating in a four-month artisan skills training programme focused on building-related trades.

The training, organised through Kalu’s office in partnership with the African Development Bank, is designed to equip participants with practical skills that can translate into employment, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods.

During the visit, Kalu expressed satisfaction with the enthusiasm and determination demonstrated by the trainees, stressing that meaningful empowerment must go beyond short-term interventions.

He said skills acquisition should give people the confidence and capacity to become self-reliant, access new markets and build sustainable businesses and careers.

According to him, investing in practical skills is essential to creating opportunities for young people and strengthening communities.

“This is more than skills acquisition; it is about building confidence, self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods,” Kalu said.

The Deputy Speaker emphasised that effective empowerment should provide “skills for tomorrow, opportunities for today, and a stronger future for our people.”

He reaffirmed his commitment to initiatives that equip constituents with relevant skills and create pathways to economic independence, entrepreneurship and long-term prosperity.
