Kano Approves New Salary Structure for Staff of Two State Universities

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the implementation of a new salary review for academic and non-academic staff of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, and Northwest University, Kano.

The new remuneration package is based on the salary structure recently implemented by the Federal Government for staff of federal universities across Nigeria.

The approval followed the report and recommendations of a committee constituted by the Kano State Executive Council to review requests from the two state-owned universities for the domestication of the new federal salary package.

Under the approved arrangement, the revised remuneration will take effect from January 2026, while actual payment to eligible staff is scheduled to commence in September 2026.

The salary adjustment will have a combined financial implication of ₦391,847,555.24 monthly, translating to approximately ₦4.7 billion annually for the two universities.

According to the committee’s report, the decision is aimed at promoting industrial harmony, improving staff welfare and ensuring that employees of the institutions benefit from improved remuneration in line with developments in federal universities and other state-owned tertiary institutions.

The state government said the measure is also expected to strengthen staff motivation and contribute to improved teaching, research and academic services across the two universities.

Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and investing in the education sector, stressing that human capital development remains central to Kano State’s development agenda.

The approval represents a significant step towards strengthening the welfare of university employees while supporting the continued development of higher education in Kano State.
