The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, has commended rural women for their contributions to Nigeria’s food security efforts, describing their role as vital to agricultural development and rural livelihoods.
In a statement marking the International Day of Rural Women, observed under the theme “Rural Women Farmers Caring for Mother Nature,” the minister said the Federal Government was adopting smart and gender-responsive agricultural policies and programmes to support women farmers.
Kyari also paid tribute to the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her support and encouragement of smallholder farmers, particularly women working to improve food production across the country.
He noted that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security had distributed fertilisers, water-pumping machines, solar equipment and heavy-duty machinery to rural women farmers nationwide.
The statement also highlighted ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to develop rural road infrastructure, markets and processing centres in farming communities to improve access to markets and strengthen agricultural value chains.
Kyari urged farmers to continue supporting the government as the country approaches the 2027 general elections, calling for continuity in the implementation of agricultural policies and programmes.
He encouraged rural women farmers to support the Renewed Hope Agenda, expressing the government’s commitment to delivering further benefits through its agricultural development initiatives.
