Labour Party Adopts Dr. Chibuzo Okereke as 2027 Presidential Candidate
The Labour Party has adopted Dr. Chibuzo Okereke as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election following a consensus arrangement involving aspirants, party members and key stakeholders.
The party announced the development in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, who described Okereke as a distinguished governance expert, policy strategist and reform advocate.
According to the statement, Dr. Okereke emerged as the preferred candidate after consultations among party leaders and stakeholders, reflecting what the party described as a collective commitment to presenting a credible and competent leadership option for Nigerians.
The Labour Party noted that Okereke has established himself as one of the country’s leading voices on public policy, legislative governance and institutional development.
He currently serves as President of ERGAF-AFRICA Legislative Governance Innovation and Policy Hub, a policy and legislative research institution focused on governance reforms and public sector innovation.
The party also highlighted his role as a legislative consultant to key committees and ranking members of the National Assembly, where he has contributed to policy development and legislative processes.
In addition, Dr. Okereke is a resident lecturer in the Department of Public Policy and Administration at Miva Open University, Abuja, where he is involved in training future public sector leaders and policy professionals.
Labour Party leaders expressed confidence that his experience in governance, policy formulation and institutional reforms would strengthen the party’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election.
The adoption marks a significant step in the party’s efforts to position itself ahead of the next general election as political parties continue consultations and preparations for the 2027 electoral cycle.
