During proceedings, the court stressed that any policy regulating minors’ use of social media must be initiated and implemented by the government, rather than imposed solely through judicial action.
The move follows growing concern over the impact of digital platforms on young users. Earlier, Senator Falak Naz had called for limits on children’s access to apps such as TikTok, proposing restrictions for those under 18, citing potential psychological and social harm.
The discussion comes amid global trends, as Australia recently introduced a similar ban on social media use for children under 16, compelling major platforms to comply or face substantial fines.
The LHC’s deliberation signals Pakistan’s increasing focus on child online safety and responsible digital governance.
