A Member of Governing Council of Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron in Akwa Ibom, Alhaji Garba Jiji Gadam has lamented the need to appoint a new Chairman as the Governing Council has no Chairman now which has affected the smooth running of the Academy and also left the Council members in limbo considering the position of the Governing Council members of the Academy to the prestigious institution.

The Member of the Council maintained that since the former Governing Council Chairman, Chief Damola Seriki was appointed by President Muhammad Buhari as an Ambassador of Spain, there’s an urgent need to appoint a new Chairman for smooth operations of the Institution.

He further added that as the former Chairman had left the Academy that there is no way the Governing Council could hold meetings without the appointment of a new substantial Chairman.

Speaking in Gombe, Alhaji Garba Jiji Gadam who was a former Commissioner of Information under Alhaji Abubakar Habu Hashidu and currently Special Adviser on Inter-Governmental Relations under the Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya led administration said also, ” I am drawing the attention of the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi that the Governing Council of Maritime Academy of Nigeria in Oron, Akwa Ibom has no Chairman now, there’s no way the Governing Council can hold meetings, so I am appealing that a new Chairman should be appointed either from the same South West where the former Chairman came from or among the existing Council members to replace him”.

Alhaji Gadam said also, “I still bring this issue to the Chairman Senate Committee on Marine Transportation, Distinguished Senator Mohammed Danjuma Goje, appealing to two Government officials to put heads together to save the present situation where there is no Chairman in the Maritime Academy of Nigeria”.

He noted that “the reasons for these appeals is to ensure that since the Governing Council has a good beginning, we should have also a good ending”.

While addressing them on the first meeting of June 2021 both the Governing Council members, Rector and its Management team, the former Chairman, Chief Damola Seriki rather told them that he was living but did not tell them that he has resigned his position as Chairman of the Governing Council of the Academy despite the fact that a Send-Off party was held in his honor and he finally left to Spain to resume work without putting the direction that the Academy should follow regarding the position of the chairmanship.
