While the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) reports significant successes in its recent intensified clearance operations within the Lake Chad basin, the mission is shadowed by the tragic loss of two officers—one from Nigeria and another from Chad.

During the operations, Sector 1 MNJTF in Mora, Cameroon, achieved a notable victory by neutralising two Boko Haram terrorists in Soueram. This success included the seizure of 92 linked ammunition belts, disrupting the terror group’s supply lines and enhancing the safety of the area.

On February 10th and 19th, two Boko Haram members each surrendered to troops in Sectors 2 and 3, stationed in Litri, Chad, and Doron Baga, Nigeria, respectively. The recovered items from these four repentant insurgents included an AKM Rifle, an AK-47 Rifle, 3 magazines, and 29 rounds of 7.62-millimeter Special Ammunition.

Despite these commendable achievements, MNJTF’s persistence in offensive campaigns led to additional victories, notably in Sector 2 Bagasola, Chad. Troops inflicted casualties on Boko Haram elements during a high-impact offensive at the locality of Tchokou on a Lake Chad Island. They also recovered three “teke-teke” canoes and seized 5x 155-millimeter High Explosive Shells used for making Improvised Explosive Devices on February 19, 2024.

Simultaneously, the Chadian Air Force executed a successful air strike on February 20, targeting Boko Haram strongholds along the southern rim of Lake Chad. The mission resulted in the neutralisation of several terrorists and the destruction of terrorist equipment on waterways, with reports of some terrorists jumping into the lake from their boats, believed to have perished.

In Sector 4 Diffa, Niger Republic, troops effectively disrupted an arms smuggling attempt north of Nguigmi near the Niger-Chad borderline on February 10, 2024. Their timely intervention led to the confiscation of a substantial arms cache, dealing a blow to the clandestine network supporting the insurgency.

Despite these achievements, the MNJTF is mourning the loss of two gallant officers who paid the supreme price—one from Nigeria and another from Chad. Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Chief of Military Public Information, expressed condolences and emphasized MNJTF’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace, security, and fostering economic growth within the Lake Chad basin.

These recent accomplishments highlight the task force’s resolve in confronting the challenges posed by terrorist activities. The MNJTF pledges to continue its comprehensive approach, combining military action with collaborative efforts to support affected communities and ensure regional stability.
