The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has continued intensive recovery operations at the site of the crashed ATR 42-500 aircraft, NAF 931, in Igbokoda, Ondo State, as the exercise entered its 14th day on October 19, 2026.
The Air Force disclosed that continuous pumping had significantly reduced the water level at the crash site, with the recovery team working to remove most of the remaining water, subject to prevailing conditions.
It added that reinforcement of the embankment with sandbags was ongoing to prevent collapse and maintain stability as dewatering operations continued.
According to the NAF, the recovery mission requires sustained engineering and dewatering efforts under challenging conditions, highlighting the scale and complexity of the operation.
The Service commended the dedication of recovery personnel and partner agencies, with special recognition for Hitech Construction Company for its support towards the ongoing exercise.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, praised the recovery team for its resilience and professionalism, reaffirming the NAF’s commitment to completing the operation safely and methodically while supporting the ongoing aircraft accident investigation.
The Air Force also expressed sympathy with the families of those who lost their lives in the crash, acknowledging the pain and anguish caused by the tragedy.
It assured the bereaved families and the public that recovery efforts would continue, with timely and verified updates provided as the operation progresses.
The NAF further appreciated the patience and cooperation of the Igbokoda community and the continued support of all stakeholders involved in the recovery exercise.
