Operation FANSAN YAMMA Rescues 27 Kidnap Victims in Katsina

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 27 kidnapped victims and recovered a motorcycle during separate operations in Katsina State.

The Media Information Officer of the task force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement dated October 20, 2026.

According to the statement, troops of Sector 1 received a distress call on October 16, reporting terrorist activities in Gamji community, Sabuwa Local Government Area, where 27 residents—15 males and 12 females—had been abducted.

The troops swiftly responded and pursued the terrorists along the Gangare–Kamba axis. Upon making contact, they engaged the suspects with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon the victims and flee.

All 27 victims were rescued unharmed during the subsequent search of the area. They were profiled and handed over to community leaders for reunification with their families.

In a separate operation on the same day, troops conducting a fighting patrol around Kurba village in Kankara Local Government Area encountered terrorists travelling on three motorcycles.

The terrorists fled upon sighting the troops, abandoning one motorcycle, which was subsequently recovered.

The task force said the operations demonstrated the continued offensive posture and operational effectiveness of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in restricting terrorist movements and protecting vulnerable communities across its area of responsibility.

The Theatre Commander commended the troops for their gallantry and swift response, assuring residents of Katsina, Zamfara and neighbouring states of the task force’s commitment to restoring lasting peace and security.
