The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has taken custody of 6,778.5 kilograms of Canadian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, following its interception during a joint examination of two containers at the Apapa Seaport in Lagos.

The illicit consignment was uncovered during a coordinated operation involving NDLEA operatives, officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), and other security agencies.

According to the agency, the seizure followed a months-long intelligence-led operation conducted by the NDLEA Special Investigation Unit and the Marine Intelligence Unit in collaboration with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Nigeria Customs Service.

Speaking during the formal handover and takeover ceremony at Apapa Port, NDLEA said the operation dealt a significant blow to transnational drug trafficking networks operating across international borders.

The agency stressed that its efforts would go beyond the seizure of illicit drugs, vowing to dismantle the financial networks supporting drug trafficking syndicates.

NDLEA said it would aggressively target the proceeds of illicit drug trade to ensure traffickers do not benefit from their criminal activities, reaffirming its commitment to disrupting organised drug trafficking and strengthening Nigeria’s fight against narcotics.
