Niger Development Forum Commends Bago’s Leadership, Applauds ₦1.5tn Highway Project
The Niger State Development Forum (NSDF) has commended Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago for his leadership and developmental initiatives, describing his administration’s investments in agriculture, infrastructure, urban renewal and economic development as important foundations for the state’s transformation.
The forum made the commendation during a courtesy visit to the governor at the Niger State Liaison Office in Abuja.
Leading the delegation, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, said the forum was encouraged by the governor’s willingness to engage its members and draw on the knowledge and experience of Nigerlites to advance the state’s development.
Idris said Bago’s vision, determination and commitment to development had continued to inspire confidence, adding that the forum remained committed to working constructively with his administration to achieve the shared aspirations of the people.
The minister also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for approving ₦1.5 trillion for the reconstruction and dualisation of the Lambata–Bida–Mokwa–Makera–Kontagora Federal Highway.
He described the project as a landmark intervention along one of Nigeria’s strategic agricultural and commercial corridors, with the potential to improve connectivity and support economic activities.
The forum also extended its condolences to the Niger State Government and residents over the loss of artisanal miners and other tragic incidents, as well as security challenges experienced in parts of the state.
Responding, Governor Bago thanked the forum for the visit and its support, while expressing appreciation to President Tinubu for the Federal Government’s continued assistance to Niger State.
The governor highlighted ongoing road construction projects across the state, including the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway, which he said would create opportunities for agricultural growth and economic prosperity.
He also commended the NSDF for its contributions to the state’s development and praised Idris for his efforts in nation-building and providing policy ideas that the state government could adopt to improve the welfare of its people.
On security, Bago acknowledged the challenges in some parts of the state but assured residents that the state government was working with the Federal Government to restore and sustain peace.
