Niger State Government Inspects Proposed Government House Site Under Greater Suleja Development Plan
The Niger State Ministry of Lands and Survey has conducted an inspection of the proposed site for the construction of a new Government House behind Zuma Rock, as part of efforts to implement the Greater Suleja Development Plan.
Leading the inspection team, the Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Barr. Bello Ahmad Agwara, said the proposed Government House is intended to improve government operations, enhance accessibility and bring governance closer to residents of Suleja and other rapidly developing communities in the area.
He explained that the project forms part of the state’s broader urban development strategy, which covers Suleja Local Government Area, Gurara, and neighbouring communities with the objective of creating a modern, well-planned and sustainable urban environment.
According to the commissioner, the development is also expected to improve transportation by providing an alternative route for motorists whenever there is congestion or delays along the Zuba–Kaduna–Abuja corridor, thereby boosting trade, economic activities and connectivity within the state.
Barr. Agwara said the inspection team carried out a comprehensive assessment of the proposed site, including the collection of geographical coordinates to determine the boundaries for proper demarcation, documentation and protection of the allocated land.
He noted that officials also assessed the area to ensure it is free from encroachment, land disputes and other issues that could hinder the successful execution of the project, assuring that all legal and administrative procedures would be followed throughout the development process.
Also speaking during the visit, the Surveyor-General of Niger State, Surv. Dr. Idris Aliyu Auna, described the location as strategically important because of its proximity to the Federal Capital Territory and its shared boundaries with neighbouring states.
He said establishing a Government House in the area would enable the governor to hold official engagements and conduct government business within that axis without having to travel to Abuja for every meeting.
Dr. Auna reaffirmed the government’s commitment to first securing its legal ownership of the land before commencing any physical development, stressing that due process would be strictly observed.
He disclosed that preliminary assessments indicate the proposed site covers approximately 16 hectares, subject to detailed planning and final confirmation.
The inspection team included the Acting Director of Lands, Alhaji Umar Nagya; Acting Director of Town Planning, Tpl. Danbaba Umar Idris Erana; Chairman of the Niger–FCT Border Commission, Alhaji Babasule Bisallah (Sarkin Shanu); Chairman of Tafa Local Government Area, Danladi T. Iyah; and other technical officials from the Ministry of Lands and Survey.
