The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, has highlighted Nigeria’s commitment to promoting peace and security across Africa as the country prepares to host the African Military Games. Scheduled to take place from Nov. 18 to Nov. 30 at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja, the event promises to be a landmark showcase of sportsmanship and military collaboration.
Speaking to journalists on Monday, Gen. Musa described the games as an opportunity for the Armed Forces of Nigeria to demonstrate their athletic prowess, foster camaraderie among participants, and strengthen military ties across the continent.
“The hosting of the African Military Games in Abuja underscores Nigeria’s dedication to regional peace and security. It also serves as a platform for our armed forces to compete on an international stage, exchange expertise with counterparts, and build lasting partnerships that enhance the continent’s stability,” he said.
Gen. Musa assured the public that preparations for the event were complete, with infrastructure and logistics in place to ensure a successful hosting. He emphasized that the games would bring numerous benefits to Nigeria, including economic growth, enhanced global recognition, and national pride.
“We are confident that our armed forces will excel both on and off the field, making Nigeria proud. This event is also an opportunity for us to demonstrate our renowned hospitality to the world,” he added.
He called on Nigerians to support the event wholeheartedly, urging citizens to rally behind the armed forces and show solidarity.
“I urge all Nigerians to come out in large numbers to support our teams. Let us celebrate the spirit of unity, sportsmanship, and camaraderie that this event represents,” Musa said.
Air Vice Marshal Abidemi Marquis, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee and Director of Sports at the Defence Headquarters, revealed that 25 countries are expected to participate, with eight already in Abuja.
“This second edition, hosted by Nigeria, is set to be the most attended African Military Games. All necessary facilities have been upgraded, and international standards will be maintained, including dope testing and officiating by global and local experts,” Marquis stated.
