Nigeria Showcases Gas Investment Opportunities at 2026 Global Energy Show in Canada
Nigeria has reaffirmed its position as a leading global gas destination and signalled its readiness to attract increased foreign investment during the opening day of the 2026 Global Energy Show in Calgary, Canada.
Speaking during a high-level panel session on “The New Global Oil and Gas Order: Power, Alliances and the LNG Super-cycle,” the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, highlighted Nigeria’s vast proven gas reserves and the Federal Government’s commitment to creating a business-friendly environment for investors.
The minister assured participants that Nigeria’s regulatory framework is designed to promote opportunities, safeguard investments, and accelerate growth across the gas value chain.
Ekpo also showcased key infrastructure projects driving the country’s gas expansion agenda, including the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline and the Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) Pipeline. According to him, the projects are expected to strengthen domestic gas distribution, improve energy access across Nigeria, and support gas exports to the West African sub-region, North Africa, and eventually European markets.
He noted that the infrastructure investments are central to Nigeria’s strategy of deepening gas penetration, enhancing energy security, and positioning the country as a major supplier in the evolving global energy landscape.
Earlier at the conference’s opening session, the minister delivered a keynote address in which he reiterated Nigeria’s readiness to collaborate with the international energy community on policies that promote energy security and the sustainable development of natural resources.
Ekpo stressed the importance of global partnerships in addressing rising energy demand while ensuring efficient resource utilisation and long-term economic growth.
