Nigeria to Construct Invictus Center for Wounded Soldiers and Veterans

In a bid to enhance the rehabilitation and recovery process for wounded soldiers and veterans, the Defence Headquarters has announced plans for the construction of the Invictus Center. This state-of-the-art facility, unveiled during a reception in honour of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan, aims to provide comprehensive support to servicemen and women of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
The center, equipped with world-class facilities, will offer post-traumatic stress remedies and aid in the recovery of wounded soldiers, addressing the trauma they may have experienced during operations. Prince Harry expressed his emotional response to Nigeria becoming the first African country to join the Invictus community, praising the government’s support for the initiative.
Minister of Defence, Alhaji Muhammed Badaru, commended the Duke and Duchess for establishing the Invictus Games and their dedication to supporting wounded heroes. He reaffirmed the Nigerian government’s commitment to the well-being of wounded and injured soldiers, emphasising collaboration with the Invictus Game foundation.
Speaking at the event, General CG Musa, Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff highlighted the transformative impact of the Invictus Games on injured soldiers, expressing gratitude to Prince Harry for his role in making it possible. “I want to assure you of the Nigerian Armed Forces’ full involvement in the initiative.”
Representing the Chief of Army Staff, Maj.-Gen. Jimmy Akpor emphasised the army’s commitment to supporting wounded personnel, both domestically and abroad. He announced the allocation of N88 million for the procurement of limb prosthetics, underscoring efforts to enhance soldiers’ quality of life.
The construction of the Invictus Center underscores Nigeria’s dedication to providing holistic support to its servicemen and women, ensuring their well-being and successful rehabilitation.
