Nigeria has received international recognition for its contribution to climate-resilient agriculture at the Dryland Congress 2026 held in New Delhi, India.
The Director of the Centre for Dryland Agriculture (CDA), Bayero University, Kano, Professor Sanusi Gaya Mohammed, represented Nigeria at the congress, where he served on the Local Organising Committee and led the Nigerian delegation.
The congress provided an opportunity for Nigeria to strengthen partnerships with leading global agricultural institutions, including the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT).
Discussions and engagements at the event also focused on advancing South-South cooperation and promoting innovative approaches to dryland agriculture.
A major highlight of Nigeria’s participation was its Best Poster Award for innovative research on farmer-managed seed systems.
The recognition highlights Nigeria’s growing contribution to climate-resilient agriculture and sustainable seed systems, particularly in addressing the challenges faced by farmers in dryland regions.
The achievement further underscores the role of Nigerian agricultural researchers and institutions in contributing to global efforts to strengthen food security and sustainable agricultural development.
