The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), under the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI, has recorded a significant operational breakthrough following precision airstrikes that destroyed a terrorist enclave and neutralised scores of terrorists in the METELE area of the Northern Tumbuns, Lake Chad Basin.

The operation, conducted in the early hours of 10 June 2026, was launched after credible intelligence and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions confirmed the presence of a senior terrorist commander, multiple hideouts, and heightened terrorist activity in the area.
Acting on the intelligence, NAF air assets carried out precision strikes on identified targets after positive confirmation of hostile activity. Aircrew observed significant movement around concealed structures before engaging the locations with coordinated firepower.
A post-strike Battle Damage Assessment confirmed the complete destruction of the terrorist enclave, with scores of terrorists neutralised in the operation.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, commended the air component for the successful mission and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to sustained offensive air operations against terrorist groups across the North-East.
“We will continue to leverage our air power capabilities to locate, strike, and destroy terrorist targets wherever they are found,” he said. “The Nigerian Air Force remains resolute in denying terrorists freedom of action and ensuring they have no safe haven within our sovereign territory.”
The Air Force said the latest strike forms part of ongoing coordinated military efforts under Operation HADIN KAI aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and restoring lasting peace and security in the Lake Chad region.
